" Polyptych “Attack” (from the series “Solomon’s Paradox”)"
Is it possible to win a battle in which your only opponent is yourself? When the numbness fades, the reptilian “fight” response awakens — a looping action, round after round. These six works (“Around 16:00,” “Around 18:00,” “Around 19:00,” “Around 22:00,” “Around 00:00,” “Around 01:00”) form a chronicle of a day-long tension.
They were created in Poland on coarse-grained paper, which became a co-author with Olena Kolesnik: its aggressive texture physically resisted the paint, reinforcing the concept of psychological resistance.
At the center of each piece is a circle, as if deformed by impacts from within. The protagonist is trapped in attempts to break through the boundary of their own perceptual bubble. Yet their shadow — thin as a needle — diffuses through barriers, dissolving into red stains within the chaos of a multicolored world.
“The shadow is free. The hero is not,” the artist states, raising the question of the conditional nature of freedom.
The 3×2 grid arrangement activates a cinematic sense of time that does not exist within each individual work. It becomes a unified code — an object for contemplation and honesty.
The works are not sold separately.Although the installation is available only as a whole, the artist envisions a scenario in which these six parts may later become a shared code for six different individuals: business partners, friends, family members, or a community. In such a case, division does not dilute meaning but deepens it — as a connection between people across distance.
The works “Attack” are part of Olena Koliesnik’s conceptual series “Solomon’s Paradox.”The full series “Solomon’s Paradox” consists of 18 works created at the intersection of psychology, exploring reptilian survival instincts and the artist’s real experience of emigration.
