When external pressure becomes unbearable, the mind refuses to process details and reduces everything to a single color — the color of danger. Here, red embodies anxiety that paralyzes the body.
An artist accustomed to filling her works with intricate urban nuances deliberately strips the space bare: “Rejecting detail felt as though I had walked naked down the street. But allowing myself not to cling to the minor brought a sense of freedom.”
The Hero presses their head against a wall, blinded by their own condition, seeing only their shadow. The freedom and harmony of Itten’s primary colors exist very close by, yet in a state of paralysis they remain inaccessible — separated into individual works.
Note: This work is part of the triptych “Color Harmony” (section “Stupor”) within Olena Koliesnik’s conceptual series “Solomon’s Paradox.”
The full series consists of 18 works created at the intersection of psychology, exploring reptilian survival instincts and the artist’s lived experience of emigration.
