To be an observer rather than a victim of one’s own thoughts is also a choice. In this work, the trajectory of stupor shifts: for the first time, the Hero turns away from the wall and observes the space of their circle. Their figure and shadow have fully merged — the inner pain no longer presses.
Silhouettes of branches overlay the sterile white space, as if embracing it. “I developed a habit back then: to sit alone in the morning and listen to birds singing. A moment alone with oneself does not have to be catastrophic — it does not require effort to shut out thoughts, but can become a space where different states are allowed.” The painting offers a legitimate permission to simply be, where both silence and thousands of thoughts coexist.
Note: The fifth work of the “Stupor” section from Olena Koliesnik’s large-scale series “Solomon’s Paradox.” The full series consists of 18 works created at the intersection of psychology, exploring reptilian survival instincts and the artist’s lived experience of emigration.
